Want to be more persuasive – quickly?

The media has shown a great deal of interest in the content of my book How To Stand Out: Proven Tactics For Getting Noticed. I’ve been featured in The Times, The Sunday Times, The Daily Record as well as on TV and radio shows too.

But this was one of the more insightful interviews that I did.  Some of the highlights to take away from the video:

  • Remember that people – yes, even business people – are rarely entirely rational. Emotion matters at work.  So if you want to persuade or influence people, be sure to think about the emotional tone of your messages.
  • Spread your learning out over time.  Research tells us that we learn much more effectively when we do short bursts of learning rather than trying to do it all in one chunk.
  • Remember that what you talk about is more important than how you say it.  Body language and tone of voice do matter.  But the most important thing when it comes to persuading others is what you say, the content of your message, its structure and the examples you use.
